Fest times are the best times...

Ohhh boy!!Its been 5 months since I last posted on my blog. Its better late than never lol.Well,I suppose my first post dint give you a complete insight about me.So here i am back highlighting some of the best things that has happened to me in this semester.

OK as I already said before that I am an engineering student. One thing,I hadn't mentioned was which year I was in.I am currently in my second year rather fourth semester.Usually even semester are longer in VTU engineering. So its during this time lot of fests are happening in Engineering Colleges in and around Bangalore.I started off my fest campaign from February this year and it wasn't in Bangalore. It was at NITK,Surathkal.Me and a few friends of mine decid
ed to catch a bus all the way to Surathkal to attend a Robotics Workshop conducted by Robhatah Solutions. It was an awesome experience starting from the bus journey, our one day stay in the campus ,strolling across the sands of the Surathkal beach that evening and our journey back home.Once we landed on Surathkal we saw huge sign outside that said "ENGINEER '09"(NITK's tech fest) and behind it was the entire campus donned with decorations and lights.Workshop was one of its kind as in,this was the first time I had been to one.Best part of the workshop was we got a real hands on experience in handling the kit.All in all we built a efficiently working Robo in the end. There were a lot of events taking place in the campus that day and luckily we caught the laser show in the evening and it was a thrill watching it.

Lot of fests happened in Bangalore this year as well.I had been to most of them in fact.Early this sem, there was UTSAV at BMSCE.UTSAV has been one of the well organized engineering college fest in Bangalore. This year was no exception. In fact this year's UTSAV was better than last year in terms of the number of events, prizes, turnout etc.Later in the midweek of April came PESIT's Aatmatrisha.Aatmatrisha is one fest which always proves to be different from the rest. They have their own way of conducting events and every year they include different event which adds to their success. They had a lot of innovative competitions this year like RJ hunt,Spelling bee(for engineering students lol:D) and Air band(Well now how often have you heard about air band??).In "Air band",you have to form a group of your own ,and act as if you are playing the instruments for the music they play in the background(Hmm very interesting). The best part of this fest, this year was offcourse MAD-ADS.Its always been my pleasure witnessing some of finest piece of acting, narration and stage presence.Lot of teams had made their appearance this time and the competition between them was a treat to watch.
Talking of treat, offcourse you have lot of food stalls put up during fests.Everything from sandwichs, different kinds of rolls, burgers to icecream and various sorts of drinks are sold. But there is nothing to beat the "Ice Golaa".Nothing like tasting the different flavours added to ice given in plastic glass:).

The other thing which i am always enthusiastic about the fest is the "Rock Show" or "Western Electric" as they put it in some colleges.Being a metalhead that is the least you can expect in a fest\m/.Every year in UTSAV ,they have a lot of bands coming and playing on stage. It is the one time you'll see everyone in their typical metal uniforms i.e. black T shirts with their favorite band on the shirt. Most of them were headbanging in front of the stage.
I almost broke my neck doing it last year lol. This year they also had a moshpit in the front where the Satan's children let loose themselves.Earlier this sem Pentagram performed a show at SBMJCE where annual VTU youth took place.I hadn't heard them before but they were good that night. The stage was brilliantly setup for the occasion.

I feel fests gives me the freedom to express my talent and gives me opportunity to do what i always wanted.Be it a Cultural or technical competition, there always something to learn and explore your hidden talents. Moreover it gives us a chance to catch up with other friends in other colleges. So fest is one time where you forget all your academic commitments temporarily and enjoy the occasion which comes only once in a year. Well its late May now and the sem almost come to an end.So this brings a close to this year's festivities.Perhaps there is lots more to come in the coming semester. So until then its goodbye from me!!:)

Well written man! Nice comeback! :P I still remember the day, we did that robo.(ps: i hope its still working :P)
Trust me, what thejus has written is word to word is true. If you are doin engineering, then your life without fest is incomplete. Everytime you attend a fest, you carry a moment away with you. And for the people who doesnt' know the taste of FEST.. read "fest times are the best times.." again..
cheers

Excellent!
To start off with, I think this article helps us know Thejus better, where his interests lie and what he wants to tell us.
People who're either not used to the college fest-life in B'lore, or non-college going kids, should take a look at this article!
Brilliant work Thejus! Let it rock and keep the faith!
P.S: I know what it feels like to have a broken neck after headbanging! :P

Fests sure help us to showcase our talent.
What we really need are quality fests in our college. And things also need to be more democratic and merit-oriented.

and Thejus, amazing blog dude... u have covered a topic that is seldom touched upon.
